Laurent Kropf's Enigmatic Exhibition at MCBA

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Laurent Kropf, winner of the 2011 Manor Vaud cultural prize, presented an exhibition at the Musée cantonal des beaux-arts in Lausanne from January 22 to February 20, 2011. Titled 'PORNTIPSGUZZARDO,' the show featured a corridor-like space that prevented an overall view, using large colored backdrops rolled from floor to ceiling to form a paper colonnade and a geometric checkerboard pattern on the floor. Harsh lights intensified the vivid colors. The installation referenced the simulation game Simcity and included a publication of lyrics by the punk band The Ex in 'Livre un : le début d’une belle frénésie.' Kropf's work often explores the relationships between text and image through index, clue, and synecdoche.
