Laurence Aëgerter's playful intervention at Petit Palais extended until May 9

exhibition · 2026-04-24

Laurence Aëgerter's exhibition 'Ici mieux qu'en face' at the Petit Palais in Paris has been extended until May 9, 2021, pending reopening. The Marseille-born, Amsterdam-based photographer and multimedia artist (born 1972) draws on childhood memories of her parents' antique dealing to engage with the museum's 18th-century furniture and Carriès frog collection. Her intervention includes an illuminated mirror inscribed with the exhibition's title, 58,038 double-sided confetti pieces scattered throughout the galleries, iridescent coats draped over vulnerable statues, and a lithophane of a sleeping Thérèse created in collaboration with the Cité de la céramique in Sèvres over nine months. She reproduces Monet's 'Soleils couchants sur la Seine à Lavacourt' five times in a jacquard tapestry. Aëgerter works with 'empêchés' publics—young people with mental disorders and Alzheimer's patients—emphasizing care for historical works. The exhibition was reviewed by Camille Mancy before its temporary closure.
