Laure Prouvost's Oma-je retrospective at Remai Modern explores generational connections through immersive installations

French artist Laure Prouvost presents her largest North American exhibition to date with Oma-je at Remai Modern in Saskatoon, running through January 28. This selected retrospective spans the last decade of her work, focusing on themes of intergenerational relationships and maternal experiences. The exhibition features several immersive installations, including Four For See Beauties (2022), a video projection blending sea creatures with nursing imagery accompanied by oral soundscapes. Moving Her (2023) incorporates hanging assemblages of everyday objects that travel through the gallery space, interacting with projected videos of women on the French coastline. Grandma's Dream (2013) employs rigorous formal structures to explore creativity and desire through dreamlike imagery. End Her Is Story (2017) pays homage to British artist John Latham, using sporadic lighting to reveal plinth-borne objects in darkness. The exhibition creates sensory environments that challenge traditional notions of artistic skill and authorship while celebrating accessible, energetic creativity.
