Laura Paoletti's 'Les Survivances' at Biblioteca Mozzi Borgetti

The exhibition 'Les Survivances' by Laura Paoletti, part of the larger 'Expositio Mundi – la mostra come medium' project organized by the Comune di Macerata, is on view at the Biblioteca Mozzi Borgetti in Macerata, Italy, until January 10, 2027. The project, curated by Lorenzo Benedetti and Giuliana Pascucci, spans three venues: Palazzo Bonaccorsi, Sferisterio, and Biblioteca Mozzi Borgetti. Paoletti's installation, developed in dialogue with the library's historical collections, features works in pastel, pencil, gouache, and ink on paper, including 'Notturno' (2025) and 'Istoria di Psiche' (2024). The exhibition unfolds across five rooms, from the Galleria Traversa with its large mirrors and lunar light, to the Sala delle Costellazioni with drawings of constellations on old book covers, the central 'Carro del Sole' with metamorphosis-themed works, a room with historical herbals, and a final room featuring a bronze cast of a child's hand holding a rose of Jericho. Paoletti's practice draws from literature, poetry, and mythology, and her works engage with the library's rare books, including Apian's 'Cosmografia', Gallucci's 'Theatrum mundi et temporis', Vitruvius' 'De architectura', Aldrovandi's 'Monstrorum Historia', and a 1469 incunable of Apuleius' 'Metamorphoses'. The exhibition is supported by a network of institutional and private partners, with scientific coordination by Laura Mocchegiani.
