Laura Grace Ford Premieres Psychogeographic Audio Work 'Open Your Palm, Feel the Dust Settling There'

artist · 2026-04-20

Artist and writer Laura Grace Ford has created a three-part audio work titled 'Open Your Palm, Feel the Dust Settling There' through psychogeographic walks in West London's Latimer Road, Hammersmith, and White City areas. The piece combines spoken text and sound collage to respond to the city's psychic and emotional contours. Field recordings and fragments of found music permeate the three episodes, creating spectral sectors of urban experience. Ford channels voices based on real encounters, establishing an intersubjective relationship with the terrain through what she describes as psychic ventriloquy. The work reconnects with counter-narratives by walking with squatters, activists, soundsystems, and friends from her decade of public sector work in the area. This new creation serves as both lament and channeling of incendiary pulses, retracing steps and mapping unheeded warnings. Ford previously captured the affective currents of Latimer Road in her 2005 zine 'Savage Messiah,' where she connected with flashpoints of counter-cultural intensity. The audio work will be presented as a live audiovisual performance at Somerset House Studios in London on June 27. The performance represents a continuation of Ford's engagement with urban psychogeography and community narratives.
