Laura Cherubini Remembers Eliseo Mattiacci: A Contemporary Master of Sculpture
Art historian Laura Cherubini pays tribute to Italian sculptor Eliseo Mattiacci, who passed away in 2019. Cherubini's introduction to him came via Maurizio Fagiolo dell'Arco during their collaboration on the Man Ray exhibition in Rome, where she also met dealer Alexander Jolas. Renowned for his interaction with materials, Mattiacci showcased Pino Pascali's "Il mare" and had a significant exhibition at Forte Belvedere, curated by Sergio Risaliti. Born in Cagli in 1940, he made his debut in 1967 with "Tubo giallo" at Galleria La Tartaruga. His 1975 work "Recupero di un mito" celebrated Native American heritage, while Baroque volutes created in 1980 were revisited in 2018 at Richard Saltoun Gallery. His 1988 installation "Carro solare del Montefeltro" was featured at the Venice Biennale.
