Laura Bisceglia: From Cello to Visual Arts in New Project Yarn Exorcism

artist · 2026-04-26

Laura Bisceglia, a classically trained cellist and soprano from Sacile, Pordenone, has expanded her practice into visual arts with a new project titled Yarn Exorcism. The work, performed live for the first time in the Natisone valleys at Altana with Kala Teatro, combines cello, voice, effects, loops, and the Indian tampura. Bisceglia draws inspiration from textile art, particularly the woven fiber sculptures of Magdalena Abakanowicz, and explores the intersection of sound and weaving. She has collaborated extensively with musician Teho Teardo and Einstürzende Neubauten's Blixa Bargeld, recording on albums such as Fall (2017), Grief Is The Thing With Feathers (2019), and Live in Berlin (2023). Upcoming releases include Christian & Mauro and a photographic project Healing Textiles. Bisceglia also teaches cello and studies dhrupad, the oldest genre of North Indian classical music.
