Lastation's Winter Residency in Gagliano del Capo Explores Extreme Lands

Since 2014, the Ramdom association has been running the Lastation residency in Gagliano del Capo, Italy, focusing on the concept of 'Extreme Lands.' The winter edition, curated by Claudio Zecchi, hosts artists Riccardo Giacconi, Carolina Valencia, and Lia Cecchin, while a summer session featured Elena Mazzi, Rosario Sorbello, and Romina De Novellis under Paolo Mele's curation. Unlike previous editions that emphasized geography, this year's program adopts a socio-anthropological approach, mapping human geography. The project, titled 'Sino alla fine del mare,' won the SIAE Sillumina grant for youth and culture. Artists engage with local professionals and tutors, including Michele Romanelli (on territorial conflict), Radical Intention (Aria Spinelli and Maria Pecchioli, on dream-reality connections), and Massimo Carozzi (on sound documentation for a radio documentary). The residency culminates in a book, prioritizing research over production. Past participants include Andreco, Carlos Casas, Giuseppe De Mattia, and Luca Coclite.
