Larry Fink's 'The Beats and The Vanities' at Armani/Silos

Armani/Silos in Milan presents 'The Beats and The Vanities', the first solo exhibition dedicated to American photographer Larry Fink (born 1941). The show juxtaposes two series: 'The Beats', capturing 1950s Beat generation youth in New York, and 'The Vanities', portraying Hollywood celebrities from the 2000s. Fink's work is held by institutions including the Whitney Museum, MoMA, Musée de l'Elysée, and Musée de la Photographie à Charleroi. The exhibition opens with 'Angel Lust' (New York, 1958) and a portrait of Justin Portman and Natalia Vodianova (Los Angeles, 2007). Fink describes his approach as neutral and empathetic, blending into his subjects' environments. He cites Caravaggio and Goya as influences on his use of light. The Vanities series employs an overhead flash. Fink, a jazz enthusiast, plays harmonica and piano, and recently participated in an album recording.
