Larry Achiampong's Relic 4 Premieres at KARST, Reopening Relic Traveller Universe

Larry Achiampong returns to his acclaimed Relic Traveller film series with Relic 4 (2026), premiering at KARST in Plymouth this autumn. The new film marks a significant chapter in the artist's ongoing exploration of empire, displacement, and diasporic memory, following a six-year hiatus. Relic 4 revisits the original Voyager from Relic 1 (2017), played by Achiampong's son, Sinai Lee Achiampong-Rose, as he continues his journey through time, encountering physical and psychological borders in sites marked by Britain's imperial past, including Tilbury Fort and the Port of Tilbury. The series is set in an alternate reality where a Pan African Union uses time-travel technology to recover testimonies from those oppressed by colonisation, capitalism, and globalisation. Relic 4 also engages with contemporary British politics, examining the decade-long legacy of Brexit and its rhetoric. The exhibition will also feature Achiampong's ongoing series Pan African Flags For The Relic Travellers' Alliance, which proposes a visual language for African diasporic identity through colours symbolising the continent's lands, people, struggles, and prosperity. Supported by the British Council, Relic 4 opens at KARST on Thursday 15 October (6–9pm) and runs until 12 December 2026.
