Larissa Sansour's Sci-Fi and Opera Infused Exhibition at Amos Rex
Amos Rex in Helsinki presents the first large-scale Finnish exhibition of Palestinian-Danish artist Larissa Sansour (b. 1973), running from 9 October 2024 to 2 March 2025. The show interweaves forced migration, intergenerational trauma, and environmental catastrophe with science fiction, opera, and documentary. Seven works from 2009 to 2022, most created with writer-director Søren Lind, explore loss, memory, grief, and the Israel-Palestine conflict. Sansour represented Denmark at the 2019 Venice Biennale and her work has been shown at Whitworth Art Gallery, KINDL Berlin, and Copenhagen Contemporary. Curated by Terhi Tuomi, the exhibition includes the video 'As If No Misfortune Had Occurred In The Night' (2022). Director Kieran Long emphasized the urgency amid the Gaza war, hoping for peace and a space for empathy.
