Lara Schnitger's Suffragette City protest procession performs at Frieze New York

Lara Schnitger's Suffragette City serves as a vibrant political demonstration and procession, showcasing volunteers who carry intricately designed banners and decorative textiles attached to wooden poles. This project features four scheduled performances throughout Frieze New York, with the concluding act set for Saturday at 3pm. During Thursday's performance, approximately twelve participants, predominantly women, wore either navy-blue mechanics' jumpsuits or elegant black gowns adorned with lace details and sash-like stripes. One individual showcased bondage-inspired lingerie affixed to a long-handled armature, mimicking a placard. Another participant displayed a large plaid ribbon sculpture on her back, resembling an oversized basket. A prominent pink and black banner reading "love your boob," featuring three women in playful cat costumes, echoed the knitted pussy hats from the Women's March in January 2017. Schnitger's pieces are exhibited at Anton Kern Gallery, appearing more as sculptures than mere decorations.
