Lara Schnitger's Suffragette City protest procession at Frieze New York 2018

On Randall's Island, Lara Schnitger organized Suffragette City, a protest and procession at Frieze New York, featuring four scheduled performances that wrapped up on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at 3pm. Volunteers paraded with handmade banners and decorative textiles attached to wooden poles throughout the fair. The majority of participants, predominantly women, donned navy-blue mechanics' jumpsuits or elegant black gowns adorned with lace necklines and sash-like stripes. One participant showcased bondage-inspired lingerie draped over a long-handled oval disk, while another sported a woven plaid ribbon sculpture attached to a baby carrier. A prominent pink and black banner proclaimed 'love your boob,' illustrated with three women in sexy cat costumes, alluding to the knitted pussy hats from the Women's March in January 2017. Schnitger's artworks were exhibited at the Anton Kern Gallery booth, presented as sculptures rather than mere decorations. The fair continued until Sunday, May 6, 2018.
