Lapo Elkann, Carlo Cracco, and Michele De Lucchi Revive Milan's Iconic Agip Station

architecture-design · 2026-05-05

Milan's former Agip service station, designed by Mario Bacciocchi in 1951 for ENI, has been restored and repurposed as the new headquarters of Garage Italia Customs, a project by Lapo Elkann in collaboration with chef Carlo Cracco and architect Michele De Lucchi. The building, long abandoned, underwent meticulous restoration led by De Lucchi, who recently became director of Domus. The restoration restored original features like gres tile cladding and neon-lit canopies. The 1,700-square-meter space now houses a creative workshop for customizing vehicles on the ground floor and a restaurant by Carlo Cracco on the first floor. The project is part of Milan's broader urban regeneration efforts, with the Politecnico di Milano having previously studied the station's revival through its Riformare Milano initiative.
