Lapo Elkann and Gagosian Launch Art Space at Garage Italia

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Lapo Elkann has partnered with Gagosian, one of the world's leading galleries, to transform his Garage Italia in Milan into a contemporary art space. The venue, originally a gas station designed by Mario Bacciocchi in the 1950s and later restored by architect Michele De Lucchi, opened in 2017 as a creative hub celebrating Italian excellence in design, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurship. It already houses a bar and restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Carlo Cracco. The collaboration with Gagosian will debut during Salone del Mobile with a solo exhibition of American artist Blair Thurman, titled "Nell'Acqua Azzurra," opening April 16. Elkann, who has a personal collection including works by Pistoletto and Scheggi, emphasizes the commitment to Italian art and the synergy with Thurman's pop-minimalist aesthetic, which echoes the automotive world.
