Lanza Atelier unveils brick Serpentine Pavilion for 2026
Lanza Atelier has designed the 2026 Serpentine Pavilion, titled 'A Serpentine,' drawing on historic crinkle-crankle walls. The pavilion, marking the 25th anniversary of the annual commission, uses Sienna bricks in a winding, one-brick-thick formation—a technique that saved on brick taxes in 18th- and 19th-century England. Co-founders Isabel Abascal and Alessandro Arienzo noted that no previous Serpentine Pavilion was built with brick. The structure blends architectural history with contemporary design, influenced by the studio's experience in Mexico City, where half the city is self-built. The pavilion opens June 6 to October 25, 2026, at Serpentine Galleries in London.
