LANZA Atelier Transforms Historic Guanajuato Home into Boutique Hotel

In the historic center of Guanajuato, Mexico, LANZA Atelier has completed the Hotel Casa de las Abuelas, a boutique hotel with six rooms and a street-facing café. The project, led by Alessandro Arienzo with design team Isabel Abascal and Lucía Font, repurposes an old residence into a 300-square-meter hospitality space. Curated by Valentina Díaz, the hotel was photographed by Paulo Zimmermmann Jr. The architectural intervention respects the building's heritage while introducing contemporary elements, blending the city's colonial character with modern hospitality needs. The project is part of a growing trend of adaptive reuse in UNESCO-listed Guanajuato, where historic homes are being converted into cultural and tourist venues. The hotel's café, open to the street, aims to integrate with the local urban fabric, inviting both guests and residents.
