LANZA atelier to design Serpentine Pavilion 2026, marking 25th anniversary of architectural commission
Isabel Abascal and Alessandro Arienzo's LANZA atelier has been selected to create the 2026 Serpentine Pavilion, named 'a serpentine,' which is set to open on 6th June 2026. The design draws inspiration from traditional English 'serpentine' walls and incorporates a translucent roof supported by brick columns. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Pavilion program, which commenced in 2000 with Zaha Hadid's design. Previous architects include notable figures such as Frank Gehry and Sou Fujimoto. Bettina Korek, the Chief Executive of Serpentine, emphasizes the Pavilion's significance in architectural innovation, while Artistic Director Hans Ulrich Obrist commends LANZA atelier's community involvement. The Pavilion will feature a summer events series and will partner with the Zaha Hadid Foundation to celebrate Hadid's impact.
