Languid Hands curates live performances at Frieze London 2021
Frieze London reopened with a dedicated performing art section, Frieze London's LIVE, curated by the duo Languid Hands (Rabz Lansiquot and Imani Robinson). The program features three artists: Rebecca Bellantoni, Ebun Sodipo, and Ashley Holmes. Bellantoni's performance "Condition the roses, accept the vision. C.R.Y (2021)" explores liminal space by arranging a large bouquet of roses in a vase. Sodipo, a queer writer and visual artist, presents "Watch my body reminds us of water (2021)", singing before a reflective surface, first with a microphone-less stand, then stammering among the audience and toward a mirror, finally sitting at a lectern flipping through an imaginary book. Holmes, a sound artist, offers "Even Myself Knows That Too (Journal Dub)", a combination of installation, moving image, and DJing that navigates the Black Atlantic, using music and sounds evoking pain, aspiration, fear, hope, love, and terror. The performances explore themes of embodiment, transformation, and pain, promoting three representatives of contemporary Black art.
