Langosta Azul transforms a 1990s terraced house in Sant Boi into a continuous, light-filled home

architecture-design · 2026-05-18

Barcelona-based studio Langosta Azul, led by Héctor Ariza and Eduardo Alegre, has completed the renovation of a 1990s terraced house in the Can Carreras development in Sant Boi de Llobregat, Barcelona. The project rethinks the original compartmentalized layout through verticality and void, removing obstacles to spatial continuity. A custom terracotta-finished carpentry piece at the entrance configures the kitchen and filters views, while a new lightweight steel staircase replaces the heavy original, allowing natural light to flow from the roof to the ground floor. The roof terrace is reclaimed as a central living space with views toward Barcelona. The intervention uses precise construction details to blend old and new without visual breaks.
