Langmatt Museum in Baden Reopens After €21M Renovation

The Langmatt Museum in Baden, Switzerland, has opened its doors again after a significant two-year renovation costing €21 million. This historic Art Nouveau villa, which is over 125 years old, received essential structural updates, including repairs to floors, walls, and ceilings, along with new fire safety measures, an elevator, and improved accessibility. A new glass pavilion was also created, and the park and entrance were refreshed. During the renovation, they discovered hidden wallpapers and a secret door, which altered some plans. The city of Baden contributed €11 million to the project, with the total expenses at 19.8 million Swiss francs. To support an endowment, the Langmatt Foundation sold three Cézanne paintings for 40.32 million Swiss francs at Christie's in November 2023, which stirred some debate. While the museum was closed, its Brown impressionist collection traveled to various prestigious locations. Established by Sidney William Brown and Jenny Brown-Sulzer in 1990, the museum features works by renowned artists and a variety of impressive artifacts.
