Lancaster School Defends Silence in AI Nude Scandal Involving 59 Students

Lancaster Country Day School (LCDS), a private K-12 school in Pennsylvania with a student body of under 600, is attempting to have a lawsuit dismissed. The lawsuit involves victims who assert that the school remained silent for several months while male students produced AI-generated nude images of female peers. LCDS maintains that it did notify law enforcement, as the initial report came from the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General. The institution claims it was unaware of any specific victims since the tip did not identify them, nor did it view the images. LCDS argues that the incidents took place off-campus and that current state law does not classify AI images as child abuse, thus negating its duty to inform local authorities. The school only interviewed the accused and his mother; although the boy later pleaded guilty, he initially denied any wrongdoing. After concluding its investigation, LCDS shared its findings with the attorney general but received no feedback. Attorney Rory Connaughton from Saxton Stump, representing the school, emphasized that it is unreasonable to assert that the school failed to report when law enforcement provided the tip and the school responded. This case underscores the legal uncertainties regarding AI-generated content and the obligations of educational institutions.
