LanaLive Festival's Fifth Edition Explores Residential Spaces in South Tyrol

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

The fifth edition of the LanaLive Festival in Lana, Bolzano province, concluded with concerts, artistic interventions, and readings centered on residential zones. Conceived by artist Hannes Egger as a collective artwork, the interdisciplinary festival transformed private homes and streets into venues, engaging residents in a sociological and performative investigation of inhabited space. Installations by Maria Walcher, Basurama, and Jörg Zemmler addressed themes of identity, migration, and urban transformation, while the Ultner Bänkelsänger choir and OMP (Orchestre Miniature in the Park) performed in specific neighborhoods. The festival highlighted the architectural history of Lana, which has doubled its population in sixty years, featuring housing from the optant repatriate era, 1960s INA-Casa buildings, 1980s climate houses, and contemporary condominiums. Egger's jukebox collected residents' favorite songs, and Basurama's Bicincleta projected archival footage onto buildings. The event fostered collective participation and sociality, turning the entire town into a living artwork.
