LanaLive Festival Explores Borders and Time with Gesamtkunstwerk Approach

In 2017, the LanaLive International Culture Festival took place in Lana, Italy, under the curation of Hannes Egger, focusing on the Via Lombarda, a historic route dating back to the Early Middle Ages. This event was a Gesamtkunstwerk that highlighted music's ability to transcend borders. Notable highlights included 'In Fondo,' an audio collage by Martin Hanni that examined the linguistic evolution between Italian and German. Additionally, 'Enlightenment' was performed at Santa Margherita and a bunker at Passo Palade, linking religious and military structures. Croatian artist Nemanja Cvijanovic presented two three-meter-tall photographs addressing themes of defense. The festival also featured a reconstructed carnyx and addressed migration narratives, including the blacksmith 'Guaritore' and the film 'Itaker – Vietato agli italiani,' which depicted Italian emigration to Germany in the 1960s.
