Lamia Joreige presents Beirut investigations in Artes Mundi 7 exhibition
At Artes Mundi 7, the largest art prize in the UK, Lamia Joreige showcases two multimedia installations: Under Writing Beirut – Mathaf and Under Writing Beirut – Nahr, competing for a £40,000 award. Her artworks delve into the modern landscape of Beirut while addressing Lebanon's socio-political issues. The most recent installation, After the River, focuses on the social history of the city's river and the effects of gentrification. Joreige perceives art as a means for alternative perspectives and political discourse. Alongside Nástio Mosquito and Bedwyr Williams, she presents her work at Cardiff's Chapter venue. The winner will be revealed on January 26, with the exhibition continuing until February 26. Although Joreige has various projects in mind, she has yet to determine how to utilize the prize money.
