Laila Gohar unveils fruit and vegetable carousel installation for Arket collaboration during Milan Design Week

architecture-design · 2026-04-19

During Milan Design Week, Laila Gohar will unveil a public installation at Giardino delle Arti, showcasing a reimagined carousel adorned with oversized fruits and vegetables. This installation, which opens on April 20, 2026, will be accessible daily from 12 PM to 8 PM until April 24, 2026. Coinciding with this event is the launch of Gohar's inaugural ready-to-wear fashion collection in collaboration with Arket, featuring 27 pieces set to debut on April 21, 2026. Known for her sculptural food designs, the Egyptian artist views the carousel as a representation of joy from childhood and playfulness in adulthood. Gohar has previously worked with prestigious brands like Prada and Hermès and co-founded Gohar World with her sister Nadia in 2020. The antique carousel, dating back to the late 1700s, is among the few remaining examples. The installation will also host an Arket café and a prize draw at Arket Milan. Gohar's artistic vision includes classical sculptures made from materials like polished butter and oyster shells, alongside a life-size bread armchair. She has collaborated with Danish brand HAY on homeware and stresses that beauty should be an everyday experience filled with surprise. The collection will be available both in Arket stores and on their website.
