LagosPhoto Festival Turns 10, Celebrates with Photo Vogue Collaboration

LagosPhoto Festival, the Nigerian photography festival, celebrates its tenth edition in 2019, having become a key event for African and international photography. The festival, founded in 2010 by the African Artists' Foundation, has built strong ties with global institutions, including a notable collaboration with Photo Vogue Festival. This year, Photo Vogue co-produced a joint exhibition that started in Lagos in October and will travel to Base Milano, showcasing emerging African and international talents. The festival's theme for 2019 is 'Passports,' exploring how travel documents have become political tools restricting movement. Curator Maria Pia Bernardoni, an Italian photography specialist who has worked with the African Artists' Foundation since 2015, explains that the theme reflects the paradox of globalized digital connectivity versus physical mobility barriers. The festival runs until November 15, 2019, across various venues in Lagos. Bernardoni expresses ambitions to continue the festival for another decade, aiming to become a hub for photographic discourse and to expand international collaborations.
