LAFC Crest Design Draws on Los Angeles Heritage
In 2018, the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), a Major League Soccer team, unveiled its crest and identity, crafted by Matthew Wolff. The ownership consortium features notable figures such as Magic Johnson, Will Ferrell, Mia Hamm, and Nomar Garciaparra. The crest's shield shape is inspired by the Seal of the City of Los Angeles, while the black and gold palette represents success, urban flair, and glamour. The wordmark employs Neutraface, an Art Deco-style font influenced by architect Richard Neutra, echoing Downtown LA's 1920s architecture. A central wing symbolizes the City of Angels and its Aztec and Mexican roots, embodying speed and power. A touch of red highlights the team's urban location. Construction for a 22,000-seat stadium began in 2016.
