Lafayette Anticipations presents 'Surface Horizon' by Jean-Marie Appriou and Marguerite Humeau

Lafayette Anticipations in Paris presents 'Surface Horizon', a joint exhibition by French sculptors Jean-Marie Appriou and Marguerite Humeau, both born in 1986. Curated by Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel, the show unfolds as a nine-chapter odyssey featuring plants, greenhouses, sculptures, drawings, and extrasensory beings across all exhibition spaces. The title references soil horizons, emphasizing invisible transformative processes beneath the surface. Humeau's installation 'Lévitation' fills the central agora with hundreds of orchids and decorative plants, evoking luxury hotel lobbies while unsettling viewers. She debuts perishable materials like wax, shrubs, and ancestral plants, alongside writing and drawings. Appriou presents aluminum sculptures of Ama divers from Japanese tradition, titled 'The Fire on the Sea', and clay works produced on-site with 15 tons of clay. The exhibition allegorizes life, death, cosmic order, consciousness, irrationality, and chaos. President Guillaume Houzé explains the foundation's dual origin: a prefiguration program since 2013 and official opening in 2018. The foundation offers free admission, production assistance, residencies, and a workshop with woodworking, metalworking, 3D printing, and laser engraving.
