Lafayette Anticipations Foundation Opens in Paris with Lutz Bacher Show

Guillaume Houzé, heir to the Galeries Lafayette group, has opened the Lafayette Anticipations Foundation in Paris, a multidisciplinary center at 9 rue du Plâtre. The 2,200 sqm space, renovated by Rem Koolhaas and OMA, occupies a 19th-century industrial building with a U-shaped plan, a 19-meter tower in the garden, exhibition areas, production workshops, a café-restaurant, and the concept store À Rebours. The basement houses advanced digital machinery for artists and designers. The foundation, an extension of the Galeries Lafayette Corporate Foundation established in 2013, aims to foster dialogue through applied and plastic arts. Its inaugural exhibition, "The Silence of the Sea," is a monographic show by American artist Lutz Bacher, running until April 30, featuring site-specific works. This is Bacher's first exhibition in France. The foundation joins a landscape of private cultural spaces in Paris, including Bernard Arnault's Fondation Louis Vuitton (designed by Frank Gehry) and the upcoming Maison LVMH – Arts – Talents Patrimoine, also by Gehry, as well as François Pinault's project to transform the Bourse de Commerce into an exhibition space with an auditorium, designed by Tadao Ando.
