Ladislas Combeuil's Wooden Floor Transforms Thouars Chapel
Ladislas Combeuil's exhibition 'Les Âmes flottantes' at La Chapelle Jeanne d'Arc in Thouars runs until February 25, 2023. The artist, trained in cabinetmaking at the École des Beaux-Arts d'Angers, covers the limestone floor with sculpted plywood planks, carving them to reveal wood grain and create a topographical landscape. A sound composition by musician Thylacine accompanies the installation. In the crypt, a series of 14 paintings titled 'Sur les cimes' (2021) evokes desert landscapes between abstraction and figuration, referencing Max Ernst's 'Forêts' cycle and Philippe Druillet's 'Delirius' series. The exhibition is reviewed by Christophe Le Gac.
