LACMA Opens David Geffen Galleries with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
On April 19, the David Geffen Galleries at LACMA were inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting event that featured elected officials, civic leaders, cultural figures, and artists, including Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly Mitchell, board co-chair Willow Bay, and architect Peter Zumthor. A Tongva blessing was performed by poet Megan Dorame and artist Mercedes Dorame. The galleries showcase LACMA's permanent collection, attracting over 12,000 members in their first week. Additionally, the opening marked the debut of Erewhon at LACMA in the northeast pavilion. Members will enjoy priority access until May 3, when the W.M. Keck Education Center opens, offering free entry for NexGenLA youth members. General admission tickets will provide gallery access starting May 4.
