Labics and Topotek 1 Win Competition for Rome's Campus Bio-Medico Expansion

Labics, in collaboration with Topotek 1, has been declared the winner of the UCBM Masterplan International Design Competition for the expansion of the Trigoria campus at the University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome. Their concept, Horti Academici, surpassed entries from notable firms such as Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia and Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Initiated in 2017, this initiative is part of the piùCampus 2015-2045 strategy, backed by a €200 million investment. The current area of 77,500 sqm will grow to 186,000 sqm, allowing for an increase in annual hospitalizations to 20,000, student enrollment to 5,000, and outpatient visits to 1 million. The design harmoniously blends urban elements with nature, incorporating a flexible grid and community facilities along the northwest edge.
