La Scuola Open Source: Bari's Alternative Education Model

other · 2026-05-05

Established in 2015 by a group of young individuals from Bari, La Scuola Open Source (SOS) has earned recognition in Italy’s cheFare competition for cultural innovation. Situated in Bari Vecchia, this institution focuses on sharing knowledge, embracing new technologies, and encouraging DIY approaches. Since its official opening in January 2017, SOS has offered 9 courses and hosted 15 free events, engaging participants between the ages of 18 and 40. Co-founder Alessandro Tartaglia emphasizes that "open source" extends beyond technology to encompass political and social dimensions. By June 25, SOS will invite young creatives to join a summer lab, "Problemi comuni, soluzioni connettive," scheduled for July 23-31. Plans for the future include reaching secondary students, enhancing communication, and introducing a membership program for secure access.
