La Marzocco's Accademia del Caffè Espresso: Museum, Training Hub in Former Factory

The Accademia del Caffè Espresso, inaugurated by La Marzocco at its historic Pian di San Bartolo site near Florence, is a museum and training center dedicated to coffee culture. The factory, active from 1961 to 2009, underwent conservative restoration to preserve its original structure while integrating modern aesthetics and technology. It once produced espresso machines and custom furniture under the 'Bambibar' brand, and in the 1980s began collaborating with Starbucks, fueling global expansion. The Accademia features a bioclimatic greenhouse replicating Central and South American environments, interactive exhibits (video mapping, ASMR, holograms), and a reconstructed 1960s bar using an original Bambibar counter from Pistoia. Educational programs partner with universities and vocational schools, offering courses on coffee origins, processing, and barista skills. A key project is the 'Coffee Migrant Migrant Coffee' exhibition, launched in late 2023 with a Brazil chapter, exploring Italian migration to Brazil and its impact on coffee cultivation. A documentary 'The Rise of Espresso' is also in production. The Accademia aims to present coffee holistically, from plantation to cup, through immersive experiences, tastings, and cultural initiatives.
