La Fondazione Opens in Rome with Romanian Artists
La Fondazione, a new 700-square-meter cultural space in Rome, opens on September 20, 2019, at Via Francesco Crispi 18, beneath Gagosian. The non-profit institution is led by Nicola Del Roscio, president of the Fondazione Nicola Del Roscio and the Cy Twombly Foundation. Curator Pier Paolo Pancotto oversees programming. The inaugural exhibition features Romanian artists Geta Brătescu, Adrian Ghenie, Ciprian Mureşan, and Şerban Savu, running until January 11, 2020. The space, in a 1920s building with an oval hall, includes a project room visible from the street. The foundation plans four exhibitions per year, plus cinema, music, and literary events focusing on science, environment, and biodiversity. Young artists and journalists are supported, including a prize for the best article on the space by an under-35 journalist. The opening also includes works by Mateusz Choróbski. Pancotto emphasizes bringing international artists rarely seen in Rome, inspired by Cy Twombly's connection to the city.
