La Conquête de l'Air at Les Abattoirs, Toulouse
The exhibition titled 'La Conquête de l'Air' is being held at Les Abattoirs in Toulouse from November 12, 2002, to February 2, 2003, under the curation of Alain Mousseigne. This showcase examines the influence of flight on artistic expression. It features pieces from Jean Clair's 'Cosmos' exhibition, such as Mark Tansey's 'Action Painting' (1984) and Giacomo Balla's 'Mercure passant devant le soleil' (1914). Additionally, it highlights flying machines created by Panamarenko, Yves Klein's 'Saut dans le vide', and Picasso's 'Notre avenir est dans l'air' (1913), along with works from Italian Futurism and the Russian avant-garde, including Rodchenko and Malevich. Chris Burden and Paul Van Hoeydonck's 'The Fallen Astronaut' (1971) represents the latter half of the 20th century. A follow-up exhibition is scheduled for 2004.
