La Capella opens dual exhibitions by Sinéad Spelman and Mikel Adán Tolosa

exhibition · 2026-04-24

On April 24, 2026, Centre d'Art La Capella in Barcelona inaugurated two exhibitions under the Barcelona Producció 2026 program: 'Turba' by Irish artist Sinéad Spelman and 'Perquè m'agrada viure aquí' by Catalan sculptor Mikel Adán Tolosa. Both run until July 5, 2026. Spelman's site-specific installation in the main nave uses black ink drawings on metal structures to depict fragmented female figures in dreamlike scenes, exploring the metaphor of peat as an organic process of accumulation and decay tied to unstable identity. Spelman, based in Barcelona and co-founder of Halfhouse, has exhibited at MACBA, Fundació Joan Miró, and Fundació Suñol. Tolosa's exhibition in Espai Rampa juxtaposes stone and butter, challenging sculptural conventions. Butter sculptures, inspired by endemic Catalan plants, are kept stable via refrigerated plinths developed with artist Huaqian Zhang. Some pieces will be stored in local shops, turning the original advertising gesture into a reflection on collective art preservation. Tolosa references Manolo Hugué's 1920s butter sculptures. Both shows share a focus on materiality as a conceptual axis.
