L'Ippocampo Turns 20, Publishes Givenchy Volume

publication · 2026-04-27

Italian independent publisher L'Ippocampo celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2023 with a new visual identity by Japanese artist Yuko Higuchi, featuring her cat Gustave. The publisher recently released a comprehensive volume on Givenchy as part of its Sfilate (Runway) series, covering women's collections from 1952 to autumn 2023 with original runway photos. The book includes biographies of creative directors from John Galliano to Matthew M. Williams. Founded in 2003 by Patrick and Giuliana Le Noël in Genoa, L'Ippocampo started with photography and travel books, later expanding into fashion, art, science, and children's literature. The Sfilate series, originally from Thames & Hudson, features monographs on luxury houses like Versace (1978–present, with 1,200 images) and Karl Lagerfeld (based on exclusive interviews by Marie Ottavi). The publisher also released '1000 Sneakers Deadstock' on streetwear and resell culture. L'Ippocampo has collaborated with figures such as Inès de la Fressange, Banksy, Massimo Bottura, and Cédric Grolet, and staged multisensory exhibitions like 'Botteghe di Tokyo' and 'Fantasmi e Spiriti del Giappone' in Milan with Tenoha.
