L'Eredità delle Donne Festival Inaugura a Firenze con Oltre 100 Eventi

The first edition of the festival L'Eredità delle Donne took place in Florence from September 21 to 23, 2018, featuring over 100 free events, 140 national and international guests, and 26 locations. The festival aimed to highlight female talent across various fields. Serena Dandini, the artistic director, emphasized the invisibility of women in history, referencing her book 'Il catalogo delle donne valorose'. The festival was inspired by Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, who preserved the Medici art collection in 1737. Marina Abramović, who had a solo exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi, stated that art should not be defined by gender but that museums and galleries must exhibit more women. Other speakers included Ségolène Royal, who noted changing attitudes toward women in politics; Suad Amiry, who stressed preserving architectural heritage in Palestine; Cecilia Laschi, a pioneer in soft robotics; Angela Terzani, who spoke about supporting her husband Tiziano Terzani; and Amalia Ercoli Finzi, Italy's first female aeronautical engineer. Actress Franca Valeri advised young women to never forget their intelligence. Urban artist MP 5 discussed her site-specific practice, emphasizing community engagement over mere beautification. The festival also featured readings of Virginia Woolf's words.
