L'Arbre de Vie Exhibition at Collège des Bernardins, Paris

exhibition · 2026-04-24

The Collège des Bernardins in Paris presents 'L'arbre de vie', a group exhibition curated by Alain Berland and Gaël Charbau, running from February 14 to July 25, 2013, with a partial rehang on April 18. The show explores nature, origins, and the future through diverse media. In the sacristy, a nocturnal atmosphere features Jean-Claude Ruggirello's video 'Jardin' showing a horizontally rotating uprooted tree, alongside Emilie Benoist's 'Micro-mousse' made of polystyrene and marine debris. Jean-Michel Sannejouand presents stone collages, while Thomas Fougeirol's canvases bear rain-like drips. Clémence Seilles contributes a macro/microcosmic sculpture. Ismaïl Bahri's video depicts a vibrating droplet on a tensed arm, and Roland Flexner creates bubble prints on clay-coated paper. In the nave, Michel Blazy's humorous planted brooms will be moved to the garden in spring. Didier Mencoboni's mobile occupies the ceiling, and Benoist's adhesive film 'stained glass' echoes pre-Darwinian evolution. Outsider art is represented by Séraphine de Senlis's tree painting. Mark Dion displays ambiguous archaeological-like artifacts. Bruno Serralongue photographs the Sangatte migrant camp after their departure, and Jenny Bourassin contributes a finger-painted disaster scene. Henrique Oliveira's monumental sculpture made from favela palisades leads to the garden, where birdhouses by various artists form the third edition of Mathieu Mercier's 'Commissariat pour un arbre'.
