L'Aquila's Belvedere Bridge Reconstruction Approved with €4.8M Plan
The administration of L'Aquila has greenlit the construction of a new Belvedere Bridge, which will replace the original built in 1966, with an investment nearing €5 million. Spearheaded by structural engineer Marco Petrangeli, this initiative aims to develop an eco-friendly and technologically advanced bridge that will serve as a tourist destination. The existing 450-meter structure, which links L'Aquila's historic center, has sparked debates regarding preservation versus innovation. The new bridge, estimated at €4.8 million, will be an all-steel single span supported by aerial pylons. Local firms Taddei and Todima will handle the construction, assisted by architect Luca Carosi and engineer Fausto Fracassi, with completion anticipated in approximately two years. The new design will improve views and enhance safety inspections.
