Kyotographie 2026: 'The Edge' Theme Unites Radical Photography in Kyoto

festival-fair · 2026-05-16

Kyotographie, the international photography festival held annually in Kyoto, has revealed that its 2026 theme will be 'The Edge,' following the 2025 theme centered on humanity. The event takes place in various art venues and historic private structures throughout Kyoto, showcasing exhibitions that delve into extremes, darkness, and the fringes of society. Highlights include a posthumous exhibit of Fatama Hassona's 'The Eye of Gaza,' a South African segment featuring Lebohang Kganye and Pieter Hugo, along with performances by Msaki and Tubatsi, and a talk by Dr Siyabulela Mandela. Additionally, the festival will present Ernest Cole: House of Bondage, Linder Sterling's retrospective, Anton Corbijn's 'Presence,' and a Daido Moriyama retrospective, alongside nature-inspired works by Juliet Agnel and Atsushi Fukushima. A companion music festival, Kyotophonie, will also be part of the event.
