Kyiv Supermarket Hostage Crisis Ends with Gunman Killed After Six Fatalities

On Saturday in Kyiv, a gunman claimed the lives of six individuals before taking hostages inside a supermarket, where he was eventually shot by Ukrainian police. Initially, he fatally shot four people on the street, then proceeded into the supermarket, where he killed a fifth victim. A sixth, a young woman, succumbed to her injuries later at the hospital. After unsuccessful negotiations lasting about 40 minutes, special tactical police units raided the store. Ihor Klymenko, head of Ukraine’s Interior Ministry, reported that the assailant, born in 1968, was killed while resisting arrest, though he did not disclose further information about the shooter. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the number of casualties.
