KWK Promes' Yaw House twists into Polish mountainside

architecture-design · 2026-05-15

The Yaw House, crafted by the Polish firm KWK Promes led by Robert Konieczny, is now complete in the Beskid Mountains. This concrete structure is built into a steep slope and is designed to face upward for optimal sunlight exposure. It features a slightly angled gabled roof, a circular sunken courtyard, and a swimming pool added for a resident's rehabilitation needs. The design emphasizes southern light with large glass windows that filter UV rays. Instead of altering the terrain, it harmonizes with it, having an upper-level entrance and garage while living areas slope down to the garden. Some plants were cleared due to viper sightings. The house incorporates concrete, wood, and glass, while also exploring wild meadows, drawing comparisons to other unique concrete homes like the Wunderwerk in Tskneti, Georgia, Casa Tao in Mexico, and House 720 Degrees by Fernanda Canales.
