exhibition · 2026-05-04

On May 3, 2018, during Frieze New York art week, Kurimanzutto, a prominent contemporary art gallery from Mexico, will inaugurate a permanent location on the Upper East Side of New York. Established in 1999 by José Kuri and Mónica Manzutto, the gallery initially functioned as a nomadic entity, hosting exhibitions in diverse venues such as markets, airports, and private residences. Its inaugural exhibition, 'Economía de Mercado,' took place for just 24 hours in a Mexico City market and showcased artists like Abraham Cruzvillegas and Damián Ortega. The gallery's physical site in Mexico City opened in 2008. The New York branch, situated at 22 East 65th Street, will continue to support both Mexican and international artists. Prior to its official launch, from April 2 to May 12, 2018, an installation by Abraham Cruzvillegas will be displayed, featuring repurposed items from marginalized communities. The gallery also represents a diverse group of international artists, including Adrián Villar Rojas and Haegue Yang.
