Kunstverein Milano Opens The Art Book Shop Project at Fabbrica del Vapore
Careof, the Milanese non-profit organization dedicated to contemporary art research, has doubled its spaces within Fabbrica del Vapore, a former train and tram factory renovated in the 2000s into a cultural production hub. The expansion aims to host visual arts projects, including The Art Book Shop Project, a publishing space curated by the association Kunstverein. Founded in 2010 by Alessandra Poggianti, Katia Anguelova, and Andrea Wiarda, Kunstverein is an experimental platform for contemporary art research and production. It is part of an international network of "kunstvereins in franchise" with locations in Amsterdam, New York, and Toronto, and now has a permanent space in Milan. The Art Book Shop Project, designed by French architect Olivier Vadrot, is a flexible, transformable 30-square-meter structure that will function as a bookshop, editorial center, exhibition space, meeting place, and production hub for printed matter. It will host volumes from Kunstverein Publishing, shared by the franchise network, as well as independent publishers and artists who use books as a medium. Supported by Fondazione Cariplo, the space opens to the public on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. For the opening, artists Federico Cavallini, Leone Contini, Sanna Marander & Niklas Tafra, and Ivan Moudov—authors of recent Kunstverein Publishing volumes—will present their editorial projects and offer an artist cocktail inspired by their texts.
