Kunstpalast Düsseldorf Reopens After Three-Year Renovation
After three years of renovation, the Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf has reopened with completely redesigned interiors and a new exhibition concept. The museum now displays 800 of its 130,000 works in a chronological journey from ancient to contemporary art, with some pieces shown for the first time. The collection is divided into seven sections across 49 rooms: Painting Gallery, Prints and Drawings, Sculpture and Applied Arts, Modern Art, Photography, and Time-Based Media. Highlights include Albrecht Dürer's woodcuts of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1498-1511), Cima da Conegliano's Madonna with Child and Saints (ca. 1495), Giovanni Bellini's Pala Priuli (1505-1510), and works by Peter Paul Rubens, Bernardo Bellotto, and Gerhard Richter. The Bronner Room features monumental works by Rubens, El Anatsui, and Richter. The museum also hosts a solo exhibition of Tony Cragg, "Please Touch!" (until May 26), inviting tactile engagement with sculptures. Concurrent shows include Mike Kelley's "Ghost and Spirit" at K21 (until September 8) and "Hilma af Klint and Wassily Kandinsky: Dreams of the Future" at K20 (until August 11). The Kunstpalast's renovation includes modern technical standards and aims to be inclusive for all visitors, according to director Felix Krämer.
