Kunsthaus Zurich digitizes 740 Dada works for centennial

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-05

The Kunsthaus Zurich has digitized its extensive Dada collection, comprising approximately 740 items including artworks, documents, photographs, magazines, flyers, and manuscripts. The project was launched to mark the 100th anniversary of the Dada movement. All documents (excluding sculptures and paintings) have been scanned in high resolution and made available on a dedicated website with full-text search capabilities. Over 50 artists are represented, including Hugo Ball, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Man Ray, Hans Richter, and Tristan Tzara. The dual goals are preservation—many documents are fragile—and accessibility, as demand for viewing and loans has increased. Unlike typical digitization that only captures covers, the entire content of each piece was digitized. The project was led by curator Cathérine Hug, library director Thomas Rosemann, Dada expert Raimund Meyer, and conservator Jean Rosston.
