Kunsthaus Langenthal exhibition explores digital unease and alternatives to big tech

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Kunsthaus Langenthal in Switzerland presents 'Raus aus dem digitalen Unbehagen / Escaping the Digital Unease', a group exhibition opening August 30, 2017, curated by museum director Raffael Dörig in collaboration with Domenico Quaranta and Fabio Paris of the Link Art Center in Brescia. The show features around thirty artists and collectives from around the world, including JODI, Olia Lialina, Aram Bartholl, Trevor Paglen, Cao Fei, Peter Sunde (co-founder of The Pirate Bay), and Italians Elisa Giardina Papa and Silvio Lo Russo. The exhibition responds to the centralization of the web by corporations like Google, Facebook, and Amazon, and the growing sense of digital unease. Sunde's statement that 'Internet has failed' and that data is controlled by unelected figures like Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump serves as a catalyst. The curatorial text asks for new forms of critique, independent platforms, and a revisiting of early web utopias. The exhibition runs from August 31 to November 13, 2017.
